Editor and Publisher’s getting in on Wicked Evil Newton

Editor and Publisher reported on the Boston Globe’s Newton site.

The bad part- they don’t really mention GateHouse at all or the damage a huge newspaper like the Globe doing this could have on weekly papers, like the one I work at. Instead, the article mentions how other papers are starting to do similar things.

Yes, obviously being hyperlocal is good and probably where papers need to go. Yet there still needs to be a compromise between these huge papers with more reach essentially going after the little guys who don’t have too many resources to fight back.

I think this article needs more depth to it. But perhaps the staff person didn’t have time to do it because they are doing 5 million other things at once. Just a thought.
