Oh, there’s just more gloom and doom out there about the newspaper industry.
ASNE is reporting there has been a record job loss in the newspaper industry this year, according to a Poynter story. Dur. As if we needed a story about that. Newspapers have continually laid people off/closed. Obviously, the numbers of job losses would go up. Even ASNE has changed its name from the American Society of Newspaper Editors to the American Society of News Editors.
This news, sadly, isn’t even that shocking. I mean, when I hear about how many have lost their jobs this month, that’s shocking. Or that Filene’s Basement is for sale- that’s surprising. Newspapers having less staff is something I, and every other reporter, sees every day.
